Joe Sumeragi was a background character in Scarlet Nexus. Not much is known about Joe Sumeragi though he is the Chairman of New Himuka, which earned him great respect. He was also the father of Kaito Sumeragi (chief of the OSF) and Yuito Sumeragi. He was the husband of the late Wakana Sumeragi (who he gives her refuge in Suoh after she escaped Togetsu).
Due to him being more distrustful than the previous chairmen, he was assassinated by Kagero Donne on behalf of Togetsu.

Appearance[]
Joe has purplish-grey hair with a neatly trimmed beard. He wears a full white garment with a black shirt underneath. He has black gloves and shoes and a red collar stiffener
Death[]
When a State of Emergency was declared in Suoh, Joe attempted to flee with a number of head politicians and NDF soldiers. However, they were intercepted outside the OSF Training Facility, where the NDF and politicians were killed, and Joe fatally wounded.
Cutscene: Yuito's story[]
In Yuito's story, Kasane is seen holding a bloodied knife over a dying, bleeding Joe. When Yuito approaches his dying father, Kasane throws him aside, telling him that she made him a promise, and to arm himself. Kasane and Yuito fight in a mini-arena until Kasane is down to about 3/4 HP. Yuito decides that he has to find a way to stop Kasane to help his dying father, which is where you first use the Brain Field. After phase 10, It is later revealed that Kagero Donne was the one who actually stabbed Joe, and Kasane was half-innocent. Yuito apologized to Kasane for doubting her.
Cutscene: Kasane's Story[]
In Kasane's story, Kasane approaches the OSF Training Facility, where Kagero is standing among the dead bodies. The scene pans to Kagero, who turns invisible, dropping a bloodied knife. Kasane rushes to the dying Chairman, who claims to know something about the Metamorphosis Research. In an interrogation attempt, Kasane threatens Chairman Sumeragi with the same knife that Kagero had previously stabbed him with. Seconds later, Yuito Platoon arrives. It appeared to them that Kasane was the one who stabbed Chairman Sumeragi. When Yuito approaches his dying father, Kasane throws him aside, telling him that she made him a promise, and to arm himself. Kasane and Yuito fight in a mini-arena until Yuitois down to about 3/4 HP. Kasane decides that this would be the best way to kill Yuito, which is why you use the Brain Field for the first time. After phase 10, Kagero admits he was the one who actually stabbed Joe, and Kasane was half-innocent. Yuito later apologized Kasane for doubting her.
Anime[]
In the anime series however, on Episode 19 - "Kagero's Confession", Kagero Donne reveals that he didn't assasinate Chairman Sumeragi. Kagero offered the chairman to cover his death in order to trick Togetsu into believing he was dead. Joe refuses and they suddenly get attacked by Others. While trying to escape, an Other throws a piercing round that stabs and deals the killing blow to the chairman. Seconds after that, Kagero turns invisible and Kasane arrives at the scene.
